Masters of the Sky -Eagle Center Rotunda, Before Birds

I'm in a one-man lift at the National Eagle Center painting the rotunda
in the summer of 2013 painting more raptors and other birds than I can
remember. What I do remember is an overwhelming feeling of connection
to purpose, like everything I had done before led me to this place.
I remember seeing the murals of angels and souls in the churches
I experienced as a child and cathedrals later as an adult and thinking
" Somebody painted that, I could do that." I realize now that
The National Eagle Center became my cathedral and nature, my church.

The Refuge
This project was a collaboration between the US Fish and Wildlife Agency and the National Eagle Center. The purpose of this exhibit is to engage the viewer with the plants, animals, and human activities that make up and share this very important area along the main channel of the Mississippi River. By the time we were done, I counted and painted close to 75 species of one thing or another into the mural. The 3-D elements were great fun to incorporate. Local expert help to pull it together included Winona Canoe, Wayne Hammer and John Mundy.
